New to Football?

The rules of modern football were developed in English schools in the 18th and 19th centuries, and involves two teams of 11 players aiming to kick the ball between their opposition’s goalposts while defending their own line and goal. The match consists of two 45 minute halves, and should there be a draw after 90 minutes: penalties.

Football requires great skill in the areas of tackling, passing, evading tackles and kicking while rules restrict players’ movements.

Football itself is the most popular sport in the world, and this has filtered down to university level, with both the men’s and women’s matches expected to be of high quality. Added to that, there will be an atmosphere to rival any varsity sporting event in the UK, an onsite bar and an after party. Football is sure to be a highlight of Varsity.

Hope Kings remembers last year’s result – we sure do.

We know it will be hard work, but we are ready to smash it!

We have a good bunch of lads in the team this year. The freshers have established themselves well in the squad and combined with the experience of older players, we have become a strong team over the past few weeks. With an ex-Spurs player as our coach, we have come a long way from where we started and are now top of the league in LUSL and comfortable in BUCS.

We cannot wait for this year’s Varsity!

Playing in front of a crowd is always great, and the atmosphere in previous years has been incredible. UCL are a very strong team and we know that we’ll have to be at our best to beat them, but we’re playing extremely well in the league at the moment and have strengthened significantly since last season. We cannot wait for March the 13th, and with Tooting and Mitcham’s easy accessibility by tube we hope that we can get another big crowd.
