New to Football?
The rules of modern football were developed in English schools in the 18th and 19th centuries, and involves two teams of 11 players aiming to kick the ball between their opposition’s goalposts while defending their own line and goal. The match consists of two 45 minute halves, and should there be a draw after 90 minutes: penalties.
Football requires great skill in the areas of tackling, passing, evading tackles and kicking while rules restrict players’ movements.
Following the success of the first football varsity last year, only bigger and better things can be expected for this year. Football itself is the most popular sport in the world, and this has filtered down to university level, with both the men’s and women’s matches expected to be of high quality. Added to that, there will be an atmosphere to rival any varsity sporting event in the UK, an onsite bar and an afterparty. Football is sure to kick the varsity series off in style.
This is it. Bring it on GKT! See you on the pitch where we’ll be ready and waiting!
Yes!!! The first Medics’ Football Varsity event is here and we’re excited! RUMSWFC have had a smashing season and we’re sitting comfortably at the top of our league, but have we done enough to defeat GKT on March 14th? This promises to be a tough game, but with more of a friendship on the pitch than a dead-set rivalry, the atmosphere on the field and in the crowd should be incredible!
We’re ready for our first Varsity!
For the first time in history GKTWFC is ready to take on Varsity against the mighty RUMS. Hold onto your bootlaces girls, this rivalry won’t be friendly for much longer!
To put it simply, we are ready.
There is more than just a game of football at stake here, this is a rivalry which runs deeper than any other. It is no secret that Varsity is the biggest event on our sporting calendar and we cannot wait to be involved, with the roar of the RUMS crowd behind us. Aching for the London Varsity Series silverware on offer, the delicate balance between the youth in our team and the invaluable experience of our finalists means that we are the strongest we have ever been.
We are the champions of UH. We are the special ones.
This. Is. Football. We walk onto the biggest stage of all, both deserved competitors, but only one of us can take the glory. With our rock solid defence, silky skills in midfield and fierce firepower up front, we hope to defeat RUMS once again and add the Varsity crown to our UH successes. IN THE EYES!
